How to Use a Computer Without Undermining Your Health

Sitting at a computer for hours at a time is a standard part of everyday life for many people. However, while we all know that sitting at a desk looking at a screen and typing away on a keyboard for hours at a time is not a sustainable healthy behavior, a large number of us have very little choice.
If you need to work at a computer, here are some great tips for maintaining your health.

1) Reduce eye strain
Spend prolonged hours at a time staring at a screen, and you will suffer a myriad of problems including headaches, eye strain, vision issues, and more. If taking extended breaks really isn’t an option, take as many short respites away from the screen as you can. Additional measures you can take include reducing the amount of light that comes in from the outside in order to reduce glare.

2) Correct your posture
If you are going to spend hours at a time sitting at your desk, it is imperative you adopt an appropriate position. You need to ensure that your lower back is well supported, your feet are flat on the floor, and the monitor is at the same level as your eyes. Ideally, you should sit such that your knees are level with your hips and your forearms are extended straight from your body.
If your job involves lots of typing, it is important that you keep your wrists, fingers, and arms in proper position. Hold your wrists in a neutral position with your elbows at a 90-degree angle. Consider investing in an ergonomic keyboard and mouse.

3) Move about regularly
Moving about regularly is important.
