Protect Your Office 365 Data with Multi-Factor Authentication

Today’s hackers are getting increasingly sophisticated and, frustratingly, better and better at what they do. They have extended their methods beyond the use of phishing attacks to access your devices or systems or stealth installations of Trojans on your operating network.

The sad truth is that every time you install a new app onto your system, be it on a desktop, mobile phone or some other device, you put yourself at a great risk of attack. Office 365 is a prime example of this.

Office 365 is fantastic for sharing data and information between users on a real-time basis. As such, it’s a great tool for business and personal use. However, this type of platform is exactly what cyber criminals look for because getting access to your files may mean getting access to everyone you share them with.

To try and combat this, Microsoft has developed a multi-factor authentication security system, named Azure Multi-Factor Authentication. When this feature is activated, users need to go through a comprehensive verification process that goes beyond simply inputting a password. The various authentication methods that are available are listed below:

– Phone Call. The user will receive a call from an automated service that asks questions to authenticate their account.
– Text Message. The user will be required to respond to text messages with authorization codes.
– Mobile App Notification. Users can install the Azure Authenticator to access command prompts that allow them to access Office 365.
– Mobile App Verification Code. Users can access Office 365 by entering a code in the mobile application.
